The Simulation

Alright, I got the teacher of promise award and this project I have created illustrates exactly why I got that award.

Every Thursday since the beginning of January, students in the Model UN program have been meeting in my classroom to design their own conference for all of the students in the Academy to participate in.

It is all coming together and next Wednesday students will be enacting the simulation!

Below is the project description.

Simulation Date: April 22nd 2009
Project: Students in the Academy and Model United Nations will create a simulation. This simulation will be a full day event. All students in the Academy will participate for a major grade in their English Language Arts class.

Students as delegates creating the conference will:
Create a website.
Create a blog.
Choose the committees for the simulation.
Research backgrounds of the committees.
Design topic questions for each committee.
Research the topic questions for each committee.
Create the list of countries for the simulation.
Design a schedule for the simulation.
Explain the simulation to their classmates.
Teach students how to research and write a position paper.
Teach parliamentary procedure to their classmates.
Act as chairs for the simulation.
Create crises to disrupt the conferences and encourage students to improvise.
Create placards for the event.
Create a speech for the event (Secretary General only).
Organize rooms before the event.
Deconstruct rooms after the event.

Students participating in the simulation will:
Be assigned a country, committee, and topic question.
Research their country, committee, and topic question.
Compile research into a folder for the simulation.
Write a position paper for the simulation (rubric attached).
Use appropriate parliamentary procedure in the simulation.
Accurately represent their country during the simulation.
Dress in western business attire for the simulation.
Participate in the simulation by listening, asking questions, passing notes
to other delegates on topic to the simulation, presenting the position paper,
discussing issues with delegates during unmoderated caucuses, creating a
resolution over the topic in their committees.

Teachers will:
Act as Peace Keeping forces.
Where berets (part of their uniform).
Act as note carriers (assessing the quality of the note and passing it to the
different delegates in the room)
